Explainer Videos: what are they?
Explainer videos are pretty much exactly what they sound like: videos that explain things. According to numerous studies, people tend to engage more with videos than with just plain text on a webpage. If your product or service is complex or if it’s value isn’t immediately apparent, a 90 second video can go a long way towards bridging the gap with your consumer.
What do explainer videos do?
Explainer videos break your message down into three parts. First, it presents the problem. Then it presents the solution. Then it gives the audience a call to action. That call to action can be any number of things from a literal phone call to a web address to a big shiny “click here for more details” button. Seriously, people love buttons. Something about poking a thing to make another thing happen just fascinates them.
How long should explainer videos be?
Now, the obvious answer to this question is, simply, however long it takes to explain your product or service. But, honestly, most people are willing to give you about 2 minutes to get your point across. Then they tune out. So, really, 90 seconds is the ideal range for a good explainer video.
Keep your explainer videos simple!
90 seconds doesn’t seem like a long time. Especially when you have to explain a complicated process. The best way to get your point across is to simplify! Don’t get bogged down in small details, show your audience the big picture. Use metaphors whenever possible (if you can relate your process to anything the audience might already understand, half the work is done for you).
